France strengthens regulation on PFAS in consumer products

Since 1 January 2026, France has banned cosmetics, ski waxes, clothing, footwear, and waterproofing treatments containing PFAS (excluding protective equipment).
News text: 

The manufacture, import, export, and placing on the market of cosmetics, ski waxes, clothing, footwear, and their waterproofing treatments¹ containing PFAS have been prohibited in France since 1 January 2026.

As of 2030, all textiles (for example, furnishing textiles) containing PFAS will be prohibited in France, with certain exceptions such as technical textiles for industrial use, which will be specified by decree.

¹ Excepted protective clothing and footwear, such as those used by the military or firefighters.
